Aug 16  -Things You Don't Know About Your Guy

Emily Battaglia, a writer for the health web site LifeScript, gives us six undisclosed truths you never knew about your guy:

  1. He doesn't like all of your friends -- Chances are he likes your self-involved, basket-case girlfriend about as much as you like his beer-chugging womanizer buddy. He probably wonders why you hold onto the friendship, and he might even wish you'd end it. After all, he's the one you vent to about her. But he's not going to open Pandora's box by telling you his true feelings.
  2. He checks out other girls -- If your guy denies noticing the cute waitress at the cafe, he's probably just sugarcoating the truth to avoid an argument with you. Men like to look at beautiful women – just as women like to admire handsome men. But that doesn't mean he's envisioning a life or even a steamy interlude with the waitress. (See related article: 6 Reasons Why Men Cheat) Nor does it mean he's comparing her to you. Odds are he simply appreciates her beauty, just as you appreciate the great grin of that Brad Pitt look-a-like you always bump into at the fax machine.
  3. He gets hit on -- Women probably flirt with your man. In fact, some may have crushes on him, whether he knows it or not, or tells you about it. Sure, tall, dark and handsome men get hit on more often, but even bald guys with beer bellies can be cute. (If you find him attractive, other women do, too.) He probably doesn't tell you when it happens because he doesn't want you to worry or overreact. Do you tell him every time a man hits on you?
  4. He wants to get married, eventually -- Ball-and-chain jokes aside, most guys do want to get hitched... when the time is right. The idea that all men want to be life-long bachelors is simply untrue. Most of them like the idea of spending the rest of their life with one good woman. The catch is that they also want to sow their wild oats and enjoy the single life first. Men typically want to establish themselves both financially and career-wise, want kids when they're older and want to own a house by the time they get married.
  5. He lets himself go when you do -- He'll probably never tell you, but your guy doesn't adore you regardless of how you look, especially when it comes to weight gain (except pregnancy) or letting your appearance slip. If you stop hitting the gym, trade those short skirts that won his heart for frumpy sweats, or no longer bother to style your hair, he'll still love you, but odds are he'll long for the old you. He might even wonder if you've stopped caring about him if you stop caring about how you look when he's with you. Ask if he thinks you look fat, he'll lie to avoid hurting you, though he may let you know in more subtle ways. Remember, the way you looked when he fell in love with you is the way he wants you to stay forever.
  6. He takes it personally when you nag -- Finding fault with people, especially our loved ones, is easy. So is getting into the habit of mercilessly criticizing your partner. While your guy may joke about your nagging to his friends, he's not finding it funny on the inside. You might think you're offering gentle reminders or that you're being justifiably critical, but the more you nag, the more he'll tune you out because he's genuinely hurt. Pointing the finger at someone else is easier than dealing with your own issues. But never being at fault can be tiresome to a husband who isn't always to blame either.

9 Things Guys Can Do To Resurrect Romance

Resurrect Romance Week -- August 9-15. Here are some simple tips for men to become more romantic, according to the book "Living Romantically Everyday."

  • Make a list -- Make a list of the special days on the calendar that you celebrate together, such as the day you met, your yearly anniversary, or even the anniversary of your first kiss.
  • Toast to her -- Toast each other when you sit down to dinner. It doesn't need to be over bubbly or wine, but even a glass of water or iced tea. Tell her something you love about her and then drink to it!
  • Reach out and touch her -- Use the power of touch to make a lasting impression throughout the day.
  • Create a photo album -- Take pictures often; don't save the camera for holidays and special occasions. Create a visual scrapbook of your everyday life together.
  • Take note of significant things -- Set something aside for her every day. It might be a newspaper article you read during your commute, a link to a web site you came across, or even a story you heard by the office water cooler.
  • Be thoughtful -- Do something thoughtful for her every day. Whether it's making her a cup of coffee in the morning, sticking a surprise note in her bag, or leaving her a chocolate "kiss" on her pillow before bedtime.
  • Keep up your appearance -- Let her see you at your best. It's ironic that we dress up to meet total strangers but let ourselves go around our nearest and dearest. Most women love to see their men clean-shaven, in great clothes and perhaps wearing a hint of her favorite cologne.
  • Tell her about your moods -- Be honest if you are feeling stressed or under the weather. Your woman will appreciate your honesty and will know not to take it personally when you come home in a bad mood.
  • Discuss your day -- Sit down together when you get home and relate your daily experiences. The best thing about spending time apart is that it makes you appreciate each other more.

July 30 - Is Make-Up Dangerous to Women?

The average woman absorbs 4.4 pounds of chemicals every year from makeup! This should pretty much freak you out. According to scientists in Australia, every year, the average woman absorbs about 4.4 pounds of chemicals into her body because of her makeup.

  • On the average day, between face creams, base, lipstick, eye shadow, hair spray and everything else, a woman can apply as many as 175 chemical compounds to their skin and hair.
  • The good news: In theory, all of those chemicals are actually safe. The bad news: That's not 100% guaranteed.
  • There's a group of preservatives called parabens that are in about 99% of leave-on cosmetics and 77% of rinse-off ones... and some experts think they're hormone disruptors.
  • What that means: they can mimic estrogen... and, too much estrogen has been linked to a higher chance of breast cancer. They can also have a negative effect on male reproductive functions... but since men don't wear makeup, it's not as much of a problem.

The researchers also found that the average woman inadvertently eats five lipstick tubes a year... which, over the course of her life, is the equivalent of about six pounds of pure lard. (Courier Mail)

July 26  - Men vs. Women? Agree or Disagree ?

AskMen.com and Cosmopolitan.com recently partnered to ask the age-old question: Is chivalry dead? And are men really from Mars and women from Venus? Both sites set out to discover the true differences between both genders through AskMen's third annual The Great Male Survey and for the first time this year, The Great Female survey from Cosmopolitan.com.

·         Nearly 40% of women report that their boyfriends or husbands are "not very often" or "never" romantic, yet 75% of men claim that they are romantic consistently.

·         More than two times as many men than women would cheat on their partner if they could get away with it.

·         Nearly half of men say they'd dump their partner if they became fat. However, only 1 in 5 women would break up with a boyfriend or husband who gained a lot of weight.

·         1 in 5 men and women indicated that they would track their partner's movements via a GPS implant if they could.

·         One out of three men would completely respect their partner's privacy online, whereas only 1 in 5 women would do the same.

·         45% of women don't want their partner friending his exes on Facebook, compared with 25% of men who feel that it's okay, though only if he's met her ex before.

·         75% of women say they peek at their ex's profile occasionally, while 15% of women admit that they do it constantly.

·         More than 85% of men still believe in the institution of marriage, with 1 out of 3 men stating that they will not pursue a relationship unless they feel that the woman has wife potential.

·         Men ranked "having a family" over a "high-profile career" as the number one status symbol for men.

·         Four out of five men believe that they should pay for all dates for the duration of the relationship or at least until it's established, whereas less than 25% of women say that their partner should always pick up the bill.

·         More than half of women surveyed say that they don't feel at all pressured (by family, society, friends, etc.) to get married.

·         Only 25% of women are completely satisfied with their sex life. Nearly 30% are totally unsatisfied, with 8% saying they want more sex. Another 45% are somewhat satisfied but feel that there is room for improvement.

·         85% of women are comfortable being in a relationship with a man who has a lower income than they do.
